Linguistics and politics: the worder order in the Res Gestae Diui Augusti,

kterou prosloví prof. Jesús de la Villa (University of Madrid).

Přednáška se uskuteční ve čtvrtek 28. dubna v 18 h na Ústavu řeckých a latinských studií FF UK (Celetná 20, místnost 147).

Anotace přednášky: The Res Gestae Diui Augusti have been considered the political testament of Augustus. There are two versions of it: the original Latin text and an official translation into Greek. Although the two versions run very much in parallel, there are some changes in the word order between the two versions. Some of the discrepancies can be attributed to grammatical differences between Greek and Latin, but others seem to have a political motivation. So, the change in the linguistic pattern expresses differences in the political message.
