Abstract:
The Thesaurus linguae Latinae, situated at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich, is the most authoritative dictionary of ancient Latin, used by Latinists all over the world. The talk will give an idea of this comprehensive scholarly project which is still 'in progress': the now 125 years of work and the current challenges, the passage from printed volumes to a database, the daily work of the lexicographers and the eminent use of this dictionary.

How to use the Thesaurus linguae Latinae most effectively, as well the printed version as the data base? How can the TlL help to answer questions that arise in scholarly work of Latinists? How does the work of the scholars at the TlL in Munich look like, how do they go about the challenge to write this comprehensive dictionary, which are the criteria that lead their daily work?
