Anotace: 

This paper examines the reception and use of ancient texts in late Byzantine literature, focusing on the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. It argues that ancient texts were not only sources of inspiration and models of style but also tools for constructing and expressing authorial identities and agendas. I analyze how late Byzantine writers selected, imitated, and re-enacted ancient texts and personalities, and how they adapted them to their own historical and cultural contexts. Examples from various genres, such as panegyrics, orations, treatises, and histories are discussed. Special attention is paid to the role of Hermogenes' rhetorical handbook in shaping the reception of ancient texts. The paper also explores the ideological implications of the late Byzantine impersonation of ancient authors like Demosthenes or Pindar, and how they reflected the political and intellectual debates of the time.

Anotace: 

The presence of Roman law in the Aeneid is an aspect that has already been studied in the past but can still reveal much about Virgil’s poem. On several occasions the poet makes use of legally relevant terms or presents legally connoted situations that underline the complexity of some social and human dynamics, such as hospitality and the foundation of cities, which both have pivotal sacral dimensions. Through the analysis of terms such as hospitium or expressions such as urbem condere and iura dare, this contribution aims to show some examples of the use of legal and sacral terminology in Virgil’s Aeneid and to highlight the implications of this use for the interpretation of the text.

 Anotace: 

V edici Jednoty klasických filologů Bilingua v březnu vyjde první český překlad Terentiovy komedie Hecyra. Překladatel Michal Ctibor představí nový svazek, nastíní své překladatelské postupy a pokusí se ukázat, že Tchýni lze číst jako epistemologické drama, při kterém se čtenář/divák musí neustále tázat, čím to je, že se všichni pořád (skoro) ve všem mýlí. Zvlášť se zaměří na drobné epizody, v nichž se demaskují předsudky různých postav, a také na techniky, jejichž pomocí se Terentius snaží nejprve podnítit a vzápětí demaskovat předsudečné myšlení u modelového obecenstva.
